Family First Senator Steve Fielding today called on Premier Steve Bracks to reverse his backflip over late term abortion counselling.
It is disappointing that the Victorian Government has succumbed to minority views and scrapped its plans for counselling and a cooling-off period for women seeking late-term abortions.
Women considering an abortion should have independent counselling from a GP before making their decision.
It is vital that women have all the facts so they can make an informed decision. They need to be fully informed about the medical and psychological risks associated with a termination.
Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen
Thank you for extending to me the privilege of speaking to you.
I say privilege because those who take an interest not only in family issues, but in cultural issues generally, are indebted to the AFA, and to the late Bob Santamaria in particular, for the contribution you have made during the last 30 years to the fight for the family and community values.
Late last year the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission made significant changes to streamline and improve its processes for approving mergers.
Major workplace changes announced today by the Prime Minister will not benefit families, small business and taxpayers in the long term.
Mr Howard has put his ideological prejudice ahead of the long-term interests of the ‘battlers’ who have put their faith in him.
On behalf of the Family First Party I would like to offer my condolences to the families of those Australians who were killed in the terrorist attack in Bali on the weekend, as well as to the families of the other victims from Indonesia and other countries.
At these times it is difficult to fully express our horror at such events.
The Federal Government should use its bumper budget surplus to provide tax relief to families and businesses by cutting the fuel excise by 10 cents per litre.
The Treasurer recently announced that the surplus is $4.4 billion higher than expected, at $13.6 billion. He also said that “… high petrol prices are good for nobody … petrol prices are bad for consumers, bad for the economy …”
