I write this in a state of some shock because this morning I was meant to be meeting Don Chipp at his home in Melbourne.
We organised the meeting last Friday. I phoned Don at home and we arranged to meet at 9.30am today.

My question is to Senator Minchin, the Minister representing the Treasurer. I refer the minister to Terry McCrann’s response to the government’s refusal to cut petrol tax by 10c a litre and its attempt to divert the public with promises to subsidise the installation of LPG; and, in particular, I refer to his statement:
FAMILY FIRST doesn’t know any families who have a spare $1400 lying around to convert their cars to LPG, despite a $2000 government rebate.
The cost of converting a car to LPG is up to $3400.
The government is proposing to combine the Senate legislation and references committees so they chair each and every committee. That means they will control all the Senate committees and the work that committees do.
FAMILY FIRST is pleased that this legislation is dead.
This was bad legislation because it was based on a bad principle.

High petrol prices is the biggest issue facing Australian families.
Families are struggling, particularly those in the outer suburbs and regional Australia.
The Prime Minister says he cannot do anything about crippling petrol prices, but he can.
