Liquid assets: sport’s alcohol dependency

(...) There is growing evidence that childhood exposure to alcohol advertising increases under-age drinking, particularly if promoted by sports heroes. It’s a link that became a political football earlier this month when Family First senator Steve FIelding scuppered the alcopops tax after the Government refused to close a loophole allowing alcohol adverts to be aired during sports telecasts, despite a ban in children’s viewing hours (before 9pm) in all other circumstances.
